LANCASTER, Pa. – Lauren Davis-Macedonia
and Jennilyn Weber limited Franklin & Marshall to just four
hits in two games as Ursinus blanked the Diplomats in a Centennial
Conference (CC) softball double header on Saturday afternoon. The
Bears took the first game by a 12-0 score and the second by 16-0.
F&M now sits at 5-7, 1-5 CC on the year, while Ursinus improved
to 14-2, 4-0 CC.
The first game of the day remained quiet through the sixth
inning. Ursinus notched one run in the first, third and sixth
innings to hold a 3-0 edge. At the top of the seventh the Bears
came out swinging, racking up nine runs, including two homeruns
from Emily McFarland and Liz Lowes to take Ursinus up 12.
Elena Stein and Julianne Whitleigh registered the
Diplomats' two hits in the game. In the fifth, Whitleigh
singled down the left line to reach first. Stein singled to left
field in the bottom of the seventh, but the Diplomats could not
recover from the 12-run deficit.
Davis-Macedonia earned the win, striking out 14 and allowing
only one hit.
Liz Chudzik was saddled with the loss, allowing 15 hits and
walking four. Chudzik also fanned four batters.
Game two sat scoreless after the first frame, but Ursinus
quickly tallied five runs in the second to take the lead.
Throughout the third the Bears totaled 10 runs, including a grand
slam to center field from Samantha Sinisi. Ursinus added the final
run of the contest in the top of the fourth.
Danielle Murphy singled up the middle in the first frame to
register one of &M's two hits. Stein recorded her second
hit of the day in the bottom of the fifth when she doubled to left
field.
Sara Damato took the loss for the Diplomats, allowing 11 hits
and walking three.
It was Davis-Macedonia again who earned the win, allowing only
one hit and striking out six.
F&M travels to Haverford on Tuesday, Apr. 6 for a CC double
header. The first game is scheduled for 3
p.m.
