Shorewomen Drop Diplomats

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Washington set the tone with a 17-2 lead, in the first 10 minutes of the game, and cruised to a 77-54 win over Franklin & Marshall in a Centennial Conference (CC) game Monday at the Mayser Center. The Shorewomen improved to 8-10 overall, 6-7 CC while the Diplomats dropped to 11-9, 9-6.

Latisha Pledger scored four, of her game-high 20 points, in the first five minutes to give Washington an 8-2 lead. The Shorewomen racked up nine-straight points to take a 17-2 advantage with 9:52 left in the first half.  A pair of free throws from Amy Chabitnoy, and a three by Elizabeth Snyder, got F&M within 10, 17-7, with nine minutes left in the first. Washington closed the half with an 18-11 scoring run to lead 36-18 at the break.

Washington led by 27, 49-22, with 15:23 left in the second half. The Diplomats chipped away at the lead and trailed 53-33 after a pair of treys by Beth Holt and scores from Alexa Barbush, Emma Lisle and Megan Pauley. The Shorewomen would lead by as much as 27 in the second half while the Diplomats got as close as 19 points.

Washington shot 50% from the floor going 31-for-62, with 42 points in the paint, and received 40 points for its bench. The Diplomats hit 30.2% of their shots going 19-of-63 from the floor.

Holt paced F&M with 19 points with Snyder and Barbush adding 10 and nine points. Pauley grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for the Diplomats.

In addition to Pledger, three other players scored in double figures for Washington. Sally O'Donnell tallied a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Meghan Tait added 11 points and Erin Kile chipped in with 10 points.

Franklin & Marshall returns to the court Saturday hosting Muhlenberg in a Centennial Conference game at 2 p.m.
