No. 4 Diplomats Remain Unbeaten

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall scored early and often in a 7-0 rout over visiting Bryn Mawr on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action. The fourth-ranked Diplomats remain unbeaten with a record of 9-0 (4-0 CC), while the Owls drop to 1-8 (0-4 CC).

The Diplomats overwhelmed Bryn Mawr from the outset as they notched six of their seven scores in the first half. Becky Willert began the F&M scoring in third minute as she cleaned up the rebound from a Chelsey Talhelm shot to put the Diplomats up 1-0.

Talhelm would later respond with two goals of her own, both of which were one-timed shots from close range. In the ninth minute, Talhelm was positioned near the goal's left post and re-directed a Kimmy Fisher pass to push the advantage to 2-0. Seven minutes later, Rachel Cooke fed Talhelm from the top right of the circle for a three-goal F&M lead.

Dana Venditti and Diana Aulisa then each added long-range shots in a span of 1:30 midway through the first half to make the count 5-0. Venditti unloaded a strike from just inside the top right of the circle in the 20th minute, while Aulisa collected a rebound a few yards inside the left edge of the circle in the 21st minute and fired it home.

Jill Kecskemethy tacked on another Diplomat score in the 26th minute with a nifty juke around her defender and a low shot to the right corner of the cage to give F&M a 6-0 lead heading into halftime.

In the 59th minute, Juliet Dalton rounded out the F&M scoring with her first career goal to make the final count 7-0.

Sarah Steinhorn and Allie Morey split time at goalkeeper for F&M, combining for the Diplomats sixth shutout of the year. Steinhorn picked up the win with two first-half saves, while Morey was unchallenged in the second stanza. Elizabeth Toft and Faith Westdorp each played a half for the Owls at goalkeeper, with Toft tallying nine saves in the first and Westdorp notching 10 in the second.

No. 4 F&M travels to Johns Hopkins for a CC showdown on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 4:00 pm.
