Diplomats Sweep Devils

LANCASTER, Pa.—Franklin & Marshall continued its winning ways on Saturday, as the Diplomats defeated Dickinson 3-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action.  With the win, the Diplomats improve to 18-10 (9-1 CC) while the Red Devils fall to 3-19 (1-9 CC).

In the first set, the two teams went back and forth until the Diplomats pulled away late in the set en route to a 25-16 victory.  The second set played out in a similar fashion, with the Diplomats winning, 25-20.  F&M trailed for most of the third set, not taking its first lead until the score was 17-16, but scored eight of the final 11 points to win, 25-20.

For the third consecutive match, Sydney Seydel led the team in kills with eight.  Seydel also tallied six of the ten service aces on the day for the Diplomats.  Julie Harvey, Heather Letzkus, and senior Mariah Eble, playing in her final home match, tallied four kills each.  Defensively, senior Jessica Poucel led the way with 12 digs.  Meghan Hubert notched 11 assists.

In addition to Eble and Poucel, Stephanie Armstrong, Katy May, and Lis Power also played their final home matches today.

F&M will enter the CC Tournament as the second seed, behind Johns Hopkins.  The Diplomats will face Gettysburg in one semi, while the Blue Jays will take on the winner of the Swarthmore-Haverford quarterfinal match.  The semifinals will take place on Friday, at a time to be determined, with the championship match on Saturday.
