Box Score LANCASTER, Pa.—Spencer Plante scored her second goal of the season in the 78th minute, and the defense preserved the lead, as Franklin & Marshall notched a crucial 1-0 triumph over Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action Sunday afternoon, keeping its playoff hopes alive. With the win, the Diplomats improve to 8-6-1 (6-4 CC), while the Red Devils fall to 10-5-1 (6-4 CC).
Plante collected a long ball from Jen Korngut about 35 yards out, broke away from the Red Devils defense, and slid it past Devil keeper Annie Weichert for the only goal of the game.
Dickinson had several opportunities to tie the game late, but was stopped by the play of Diplomats keeper Amanda McGowan, who made two saves in recording her eighth shutout of the season.
Both teams had seven shots on goal, two of which were on target. Dickinson had the only two corners in the game.
Alexa Yarish tallied the other shot on goal for F&M. Libby Nichols had two shots for the Diplomats. Carley Nicholson, Jen Korngut, and Bailey Huber also had shots for F&M.
The game was the final home game for seniors Huber, Henley Siegrist, and Jessica House.
F&M must wait until tomorrow to find out its postseason fate. A win or tie by Swarthmore against Haverford would give the Diplomats the fifth and final seed in the CC tournament, which begins Wednesday.
