Diplomats Keep Rollin'

LANCASTER, Pa. – Four different players scored as No. 3 Franklin & Marshall handed Haverford a 5-0 setback in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action Sunday afternoon. The Diplomats remain unbeaten on the year with an 11-0 mark (6-0 CC) while the Fords fell to 6-5, 3-2 CC. The victory snaps a F&M's four-game losing streak to the Fords.

F&M struck first with a goal in the 16th minute. Chelsey Talhelm started a three-goal, 13-minute scoring run when she redirected an Allison McLaren shot into the back of the net at 15:25.  In the 28th minute, Kristen Zublin redirected McLaren's shot to the back on the cage for a 2-0 F&M edge. 

F&M tacked on another scored 46 seconds later when Becky Willert scored her 19th goal on the year with an unassisted goal at 27:50. Willert set up on the end line, dribble to the right and knocked it through the five hole to give the Diplomats a 3-0 lead.  The senior forward moved up to the seventh position on F&M's all-time scoring list with 38 career goals. 

Maura Hennigan did all the damage in the second half with two goals almost 30 minutes apart. The first happened just a little over two minutes into the second stanza when Hennigan took the ball off a corner, repositioned it, and fired the ball passed the keeper for a 4-0 F&M advantage. 

The junior struck again in the 68th minute when she made the best of a Dana Venditti pass, set up on the arc, and found the back of the net. 

F&M's defense, led by Bethany Vincent, Steph McDonald, Megan Kelly and Kimmy Fisher limited the Fords to just four shots on goal. Avery Koep turned away all four shots to pick up her fifth shutout of the season and improve to 10-0. 

Syndney Hyder had seven saves in the loss. For Haverford. Hyder fell to 6-5 on the season. 

The Diplomats outshot the Fords 14-10 and held a slight 9-8 advantage on corners. 

F&M returns to action when the Diplomats travel to Shenandoah on Tuesday to take on Lynchburg at 6:30 p.m.
