Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Seven different players scored as Franklin & Marshall's men's lacrosse team cruised past Immaculata in the season opener. Freshman attack, Billy Kempner, recorded a hat trick and an assist in the Diplomats (1-0) victory.
Kempner netted his first career goal 62 seconds into the contest. He also scored the Diplomats final goal of the afternoon. In between, he poked home the game winner with 6:54 left in the first half. Parked on the post, Kempner collected a well-placed feed from fellow freshman Matt Gillan, then forced the Mighty Macs (0-1) keeper to commit, before beating him with a second stick fake, making it 5-2.
Kempner's second was the second in a 12-minute, six-goal run that put Immaculata on ice. The Mighty Macs fired off consecutive goals at the start of the fourth quarter, but Tim Gaines' second of the afternoon ended the rally. Jimmy Wenk also scored a pair for the Diplomats.
Colin McKew registered an assist for his 50th career point, while Kevin Kilpatrick picked up his 30th career goal early in the third.
The Diplomats outshot Immaculata 42-24. F&M's freshman keeper, Cameron Setian, worked the full 60 making nine saves. Immaculata's Jon Diodati was under fire all day. He turned away 13 shots. Both keepers came up with a handful of dandy saves. Andrew Setian dominated the faceoffs all afternoon, winning 14 of the game's 18 draws. The junior moved past 175 career faceoff wins during the victory.
The Diplomats return to action at home on Saturday against #5 Roanoke. The opening faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
