Box Score 2 LANCASTER, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall opened its Centennial Conference slate splitting a doubleheader with Washington College Saturday afternoon. The Shorewomen won the first game 11-5 before the Diplomats took the second 7-1. F&M improved to 14-6 overall, 1-1 CC while WC sits at 9-9, 1-1.
The Diplomats exploded for six runs in the first three innings of the second game. Julie Jefferson got things started with a RBI single in the first before Danielle Murphy and Malorie Sassaman tacked on two more in the second with singles to put F&M ahead 3-0.
After Rachel Laufer scored on error in the third, Amanda Schellaci belted a two run home run to center field to put the Diplomats up 6-0. Schellaci's round tripper plated Alicia Kukoda, who singled, stole second and advanced to third on an error.
The Shorewomen got on the board in the fourth with a Brittany Walter's single. F&M matched that run in the fifth when's Jefferson's sacrifice scored Megan Pauley, who led off the inning with a single, to give the Diplomats a 7-1 lead.
Kaitlin Zampino went the distance to pick up her fifth win of the of the season. Zampino (5-2) scattered five hits, struck out three and walk no batters. Sassaman and Pauley paced the offense with three hits each.
After a scoreless first inning in the first game, Washington scored six runs total in the second and third. With her team ahead 2-0 after two, Walter stroked a 2 RBI double to center before Kylie Nottingham homered to left field to make it 6-0.
A passed ball in the third gave the Diplomats their run when Kukoda crossed home. Washington got the run back in the sixth when Jill Piasecki scored Hilary Rosenberg with a sacrifice fly.
The Shorewomen added four runs in the top of the fourth before F&M matched it in the bottom of the inning. Trailing 11-1, Sassaman hit a 2 RBI double to center, Samantha Denoville brought home a run with double and Liz Chudzik singled to center for the Diplomats final run.
Walter earned the win for WC to improve to 5-4. Nicole Casey took the loss and fell to 6-4. Denoville and Chudzik led the offense with two hits each.
The Diplomats return to CC play Tuesday at Ursinus in doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
