Box Score 2 LANCASTER, Pa. – Centennial Conference leader Muhlenberg won two games against Franklin & Marshall Thursday afternoon. The Mules won the first game 10-4 before breaking a 3-3 tie in the final frame of the nightcap to win 8-3. Muhlenberg improved to 8-2 CC, 17-10 overall while the Diplomats fell to 4-5, 18-10-1.
Franklin & Marshall took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in the second game when
Julie Jefferson singled to left to score
Danielle Murphy. The Mules evened the score in the fourth when an error plated Jessica Costa.
The Mules knotted the contest again in the fifth with a pair of home runs to left field. Colleen O'Donnell struck first with a solo shot before Ashley Brewer matched her teammate with solo of her own to make 3-3.
Muhlenberg exploded for five runs in the top of the seventh to blow the game open. Alyssa Epstein roped a single to left to make it 4-3 before Brittany Blohm belted a grand slam home run to left field to make it 8-3.
Nicole Casey took the loss and fell to 7-4 on the mound for F&M. She pitched 6.2 innings giving up three earned runs. Angie Sisco picked up the win after relieving Alyssa Bruckner in the fourth for Muhlenberg.
Muhlenberg put up a run in the first inning in the second game before the Diplomats answered with a pair in the bottom of the inning. Zampino plated two runs with a single that scored both
Malorie Sassaman and Murphy.
Sassaman got on with a single to left for her 52nd hit of the season. She broke the school mark for hits in a season set by Lauren Incorvaia '09.
Muhlenberg put up one run in the second and five in the third to lead 7-2. Jefferson's RBI single in the bottom of third made 7-3 with no outs. Samantha DeNoville followed Jefferson by lining out to second, with persons on first and second, before the second basemen touched second and threw to first for a triple play to end the rally.
The Mules added two in the fourth and one in sixth before F&M put up a run in the sixth with
Caitlin Brust's fielder's choice RBI.
Ashley Brewer earned the win with a complete-game and improved to 8-4. Zampino took the loss with 2.1 innings of work and fell to 7-4. Sassaman paced the Diplomats with three hits while Murphy and
Allie McQuaide had two.
Franklin & Marshall returns to action Saturday hosting Haverford at 1:30 p.m.
