Box Score ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.--The Franklin & Marshall women's volleyball team fell to St. Mary's College in straight sets in the season opener for both teams. The Seahawks (1-0) took the first set 25-12, before posting 25-21 victories in each of the final two sets.
The Diplomats (0-1) were led by
Candice Tussing, who had eight kills, along with a service ace and a pair of digs.
Kerry Rom added six kills and 10 digs. The Diplomats recorded 27 kills and 58 digs
The two teams were tied at 10 in the first set, when the Seahawks pulled away by scoring 11 points in a row, and 15 of the final 17.
In the second set, the Seahawks held off a late charge by the Diplomats to take the set. The third set saw St. Mary's get off to an early lead and hold it the rest of the way.
The Diplomats continue play at St. Mary's tomorrow with matches against North Carolina Wesleyan and Randolph-Macon. The N.C. Wesleyan match starts at 1 p.m., and the Randolph-Macon match starts at 3 p.m.
