ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.-- Franklin & Marshall split a pair of matches in the St. Mary's tournament in non-conference volleyball action.  The Diplomats (1-2) took the opener from North Carolina Wesleyan 3-1 before dropping their second match of the day to Randolph-Macon by the same score.

In the first match against N.C. Wesleyan, the Diplomats dropped the opening set 25-21, but took the next three by scores of 25-22, 25-16, and 25-20.  Julie Harvey and Sydney Seydel paced the Diplomat attack with 13 kills each, while Katy May and Candice Tussing had excellent defensive games with 24 digs apiece.  Caitlin Krutsick added 15 digs to go along with five kills.

Lis Power led the service game by tallying three of the eight aces the Diplomats had in the match.  Overall, the Diplomats recorded 48 kills and 91 digs.

In the second match, the Yellow Jackets raced out to a 2-0 lead, winning both sets by a 25-15 margin.  The Diplomats took the third set 25-14, before the Yellow Jackets closed out the match with a 25-23 victory in the fourth set.

Harvey and Seydel once again led the attack, with Harvey recording nine kills and Seydel eight to lead the team in that category.  Krutsick set up many of the kills, as she was responsible for 32 of the Diplomats 40 assists.  Tussing and May paced the defense with 13 kills apiece.  The

Diplomats ended up with 40 kills and 60 digs in the second match.

Franklin & Marshall will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 7, when they head up Route 283 to take on Elizabethtown.  Game time is 7 p.m.
