Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Four players scored in double-figures as No. 9 Franklin & Marshall defeated Haverford 77-57 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 18-1, 11-1 CC while the Fords fell to 6-13, 4-8 CC.
The win is the eighth straight over Haverford and the 16th in a row at the Mayser Center since CC play started in 1994.
F&M jumped out to an early 7-1 lead four minutes into the game before Haverford answered with 12-6 run to tie the game at 13 with 13:25 remaining in the half. The teams traded buckets for a 15-15 score before the Diplomats pulled away with a 14-0 run, that spanned over four minutes, to go up 29-15 at the 7:56 mark. F&M maintained at least a nine-point lead the remainder of the half and went into the break with a 37-26 edge.
The Diplomats opened up the second half with an 11-4 run to go up 48-30 at 15:41. Georgio Milligan and Jon Salandra combined for eight points over the next four minutes to put F&M ahead 21, 56-35, with 11:10 left in the game. F&M maintained its double-digit lead the remainder of half, leading by as many as 21, and never trailing by more than 17.
Milligan finished with a game-high 23 points and dished out six assists. The senior shot 8-for-10 from the stripe and pulled down five boards. Milligan moved by Terry Scott '88 on F&M's all-time scoring and took over the third spot with 1,687 points. Don Marsh '79 sits in second with 1,695 and James McNally has the school mark with 1,796 points.
Hayk Gyokchyan picked up his eighth double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 boards. Salandra shot 5-for-7 from the field for 13 points and Matt Porter finished with 10. Ed Early tallied seven points and collected seven boards.
Bo Friddel scored a team-high 18 points for the Fords while Cam Baker tallied 11 and Gibby Graves ended with 10 points.
F&M outshot Haverford 49% to 31% and held a 51-23 advantage on the glass.
F&M starts a two-game road swing next week when the Diplomats travel to Ursinus on Wednesday for a 7:30 pm game and Muhlenberg on Saturday for 4:00 pm tip-off.
