LANCASTER, Pa. - No. 7 Franklin & Marshall captured wins at the bottom three spots in the lineup but was outlasted by No. 5 Rochester 6-3 in men's squash action at the Mayser Center Friday evening. The Diplomats drop to 4-3 with the defeat, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-1.
Dylan Cunningham, Jack Cutler, and Brian Henry notched wins at positions 7-9, respectively. Cunningham edged Xiaomen Meng in a back-and-forth match that stretched to five games, 11-4, 11-8, 7-11, 5-11, 11-6. Jack Cutler registered a marathon four-game victory over William Mohr, 11-6, 11-4, 15-17, 17-5, while Henry rounded out the F&M scoring with an 11-8, 11-4, 11-3 triumph against Juan Herrera.
Several Diplomats came up just short in tight matchups that could have gone either way. Pedro Veiga de Almeida was nipped by Adam Perkiomaki at No. 4 8-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-6, 11-4, No. 1 Guilherme de Melo fell 4-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-4 to Andres Duany, and No. 5 Alex Arjoon dropped a narrow 5-11, 14-12, 11-8, 11-9 decision to Oscar Lopez Hidalgo.
F&M must now wait over a month before its next action on the courts. The Diplomats will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at home against Pennsylvania at 5:00 p.m.
