Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. – Johns Hopkins used a first half run to drive past Franklin & Marshall 68-40 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action Tuesday evening. The loss ends the Diplomats' (17-7, 14-5 CC) five-game winning streak as the Blue Jays (21-3, 16-3 CC) sweep the series between the two teams.
Hopkins jumped out to an early 5-0 lead three minutes into the contest. However, F&M quickly responded with two baskets bringing the game to 5-4 at 15:04. JHU answered with a 17-6 run, to lead 22-8, with 5:26 remaining in the half. Alexa Barbush scored five of the Diplomats final nine points of the half that featured a jumper and three made free-throws to head into the break, 33-17.
The second half of the contest was much of the same with the Blue Jays coming out strong. The Diplomats closest margin of the half came at 17:43, when Elizabeth Snyder drained a pair of free-throws to bring F&M within 12 points, 35-23. Hopkins proved to be too much down the stretch, leading by as many as 31 points en route to its victory.
The Diplomats shot a season low 18.9 percent from the field, but were 20-for-28 from the charity stripe. Snyder drained 8-of-11 and Barbush was 5-for-6 from the line.
Barbush led F&M with 13 points, while Snyder contributed 10 points. Kristina McCarthy brought down 11 rebounds.
Chantel Mattiola paced the Blue Jays with a game-high 16 points, Alex Vassila added 12 points and grabbed seven boards, and Stephanie Fong scored 10. From the bench, Haley Bush contributed nine points while pulling down seven rebounds.
F&M returns to CC action on Saturday when the Diplomats wrap-up their regular season at Dickinson. Tip off is set for 2:00 p.m.
