Box Score BALTIMORE – Georgio Milligan and Ed Early combined for 51 points to lead No. 13 Franklin & Marshall to a 71-63 victory over Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action. The Diplomats improved to 22-2, 15-2 CC while the Blue Jays fell to 14-10, 10-7 CC.
Milligan scored a game-high 27 points, giving him 1,781 point in his career, which is 16 points shy of James McNally's '11 school mark of 1,796.
F&M jumped out to an early 8-2 lead four minutes into the game and quickly increased its edge to 20-9 at the 11:31 mark. Hopkins came within seven, 25-18, before Early scored two straight buckets to put the Diplomats back up 11, 29-18, with 7:57 remaining in the half. The Blue Jays answered with a 12-5 run to come within five points, 35-30, but F&M answered outscoring Hopkins 6-3, to go into the break with a 41-33 lead.
The teams traded baskets during the first four minutes of the second half with F&M holding onto a 47-38 edge at 16:46. Hopkins came alive and went on an 11-0 run to take its first and only lead of the game, 48-47, with 11:47 left to play. Milligan answered the call with five straight points to put the Diplomats back on top, 52-48, with less than ten minutes to play.
Johns Hopkins answered again to come within a point, 54-53, at 7:11 before Early led a 7-2 F&M run to extend the Diplomats' lead to six. The Blue Jays came within four points, 63-59, with 4:13 remaining, but F&M stayed strong down stretch to secure the victory.
Milligan went 3-for-3 from the behind arc and shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the stripe. Early tallied a career-high 24 points on 10-for-16 shooting and went 4-for-4 from the foul line. Matt Porter dropped in 10 points for the Diplomats.
Aleksander Nikolic scored a team-high 13 points for the Blue Jays and Tim McCarty finished with 11.
Glenn Robinson picked up career-win 827 and is one victory shy of tying Clarence Gaines for the 10th spot on the NCAA all-time coaching wins list.
F&M wraps up the regular on Saturday when the Diplomats travel to Dickinson for a 4 p.m. tip off.
