Diplomats Ground Griffins

LANCASTER, Pa. – Tristan Miller tallied four goals to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 15-7 victory over Gwynedd-Mercy in non-conference men's lacrosse action. The Diplomats improved to 2-1 while the Griffins fell to 0-1.

F&M went up 2-0 in the opening six minutes of action. Kevin Kilpatrick took a Billy Kempner feed and found the back of the net for the first tally and Miller made it 2-0 at 9:20 with an unassisted goal. The Griffins answered with two goals to tie the game at 2-2. Jordan Barr put the Diplomats up one with a goal 92 seconds into the second quarter before Mason Risner picked up one for GW at 11:09 to tie the game at three.

The Diplomats countered with five goals in the last ten minutes of the second quarter to go into the break up 8-3. Barr and A.J. Reichert recorded the first two goals in the run and Barr fed Kempner for the third that put F&M up 6-3 with 3:16 remaining the half. James Wenk found the back of the net at 1:16 before Colin McKew feed Miller for the fifth goal with three seconds remaining the half.

F&M started the second half off strong when McKew found Kilpatrick to put F&M up 9-3 early in the third before the Griffins broke their 18-minute scoring drought with a score at 7:59. Miller put F&M up 11-4 with back-to-back goals --  the second was behind the back shot from a feed by Kempner.  Wenk and Murray netted a goal each 48 seconds apart to put F&M up 13-4. Wenk was set up by McKew while Kempner found Murray for the goal.

GW rallied off three-straight at the end of the third and the start of the fourth to come within six, 13-7. Kempner made it 14-7 with a goal at 7:35 and Jason Polansky found Jeff Newton for F&M's final score.

Cameron Setian picked up five saves in 45 minutes of action to earn the victory. Setian improved to 2-1 this season.  Ryley O'Keefe took the loss for the Griffins.

Andrew Setian won 13-of-20 faceoffs and collected six ground balls.

The Diplomats out shot GW 42-21 and forced 18 turnovers.

F&M returns home Saturday when the Diplomats host St. Mary's at 4:00 p.m.
