Box Score ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Carley Nicholson netted an early goal as the Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team battled Elizabethtown to a 1-1 2OT draw on Wednesday in non-conference action. The tie brings the Diplomats record to 0-1-2, while Elizabethtown goes to 3-0-2.
Nicholson scored on the first shot of the game for F&M, tallying her first goal of the season just 4:18 into the contest. The senior forward collected a loose ball and chipped it over Blue Jay goalkeeper Jess Manchak to give the Diplomats the early lead. F&M held that lead until the 54th minute of play, when the Blue Jays tied up the game with an Eryn Henderson goal.
F&M started out the game strong, but were held to just four shots after the initial goal. The Blue Jays poured on 24 shots, including 11 in the second half, but were repeatedly denied by goalkeeper Amanda McGowan, who recorded a season-high 12 saves.
The Blue Jays were coming off of a 9-0 win against Immaculata, but were unable to repeat their offensive success against the Diplomats staunch defense and McGowan's strong play in net.
F&M hosts Swarthmore this Saturday for its first Centennial Conference match of the season. The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
