Snyder's Last-Second Shot Downs Shorewomen

Box Score

LANCATSER, Pa. – An Elizabeth Snyder lay-in from underneath the basket with less than one-second remaining in regulation capped off a wild 50-49 win by Franklin & Marshall over Centennial Conference (CC) opponent Washington College on Tuesday night at the Mayser Center. The Diplomats' record improved to 6-9, 3-7 CC with the victory, while the Shorewomen fell to 7-8, 5-5 CC.

The lead belonged to F&M at 48-47 with nine seconds left in the game, until Washington College hit a jumper to pull ahead by one. Following a Diplomats timeout, F&M quickly pushed the ball up the court for the last-second shot.

Alexa Barbush had the first opportunity, missing a jumper with just seconds remaining that was pulled in by Snyder underneath. The senior guard threw the ball off the glass, landing the layup to give her team the one-point advantage with only 0.4 seconds left on the clock.

The Shorewomen inbounded the ball but were unable to get off a shot before time expired, sealing the victory for the Diplomats.

The defense for F&M was dominant in the first-half, holding Washington College to only 16 percent shooting, forcing 13 turnovers and giving the Diplomats a 22-11 halftime advantage. F&M held onto the lead for the majority of the second, as the Shorewomen gradually chipped away over the course of 20 minutes but eventually fell short in the closing seconds.

The Diplomats caused 19 turnovers in the contest and held Washington College to 32 percent shooting. The F&M offense took advantage of the Shorewomen's mistakes, generating 18 points off turnovers.

Snyder led the offense with 14 points, while contributing eight rebounds and five steals on the night. Barbush also scored in double-digits with 13. McCarthy was strong on the glass pulling in 11 rebounds, including nine on the defensive end.

The Diplomats take to the road on Thursday to face off against CC-opponent Dickinson. The contest is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
