Diplomats Downed by Fords

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall could not overcome a 17-0 first-half run from Haverford, dropping a 50-33 contest against the Fords on Saturday in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The loss dropped the Diplomats' record to 7-12, 4-10 CC, while Haverford improved to 11-6, 8-5 CC.

F&M kept the score close in the opening minutes of the contest and trailed the Fords by four at 10-6 with 14:04 remaining in the first.

From there, the Diplomats were held scoreless for nearly eight minutes of action as Haverford put the game out of reach with a 17-0 run to pull ahead 27-6.

The Fords' lead remained idle through the final seven minutes of the half, however F&M was unable to close the gap before intermission and entered the break down by 20 at 33-13.

Haverford pushed the Diplomats' deficit to 23, the largest of the game, at the 15:42 mark of the second when Jacquelyne Pizzuto drained a 3-pointer to make the score 40-17.

The lead was cut to 17 at 46-29 with 6:07 remaining when Alexa Barbush drove the lane for the lay-up, but F&M was unable to bring the score any closer en route to the 17-point setback.

The Diplomats committed 20 turnovers on the afternoon which led to 24 points from the Fords. F&M shot 30 percent from the field, while holding Haverford to 36 percent shooting.

Kristina McCarthy led the Diplomats with her sixth double-double of the season, recording 13 points and 13 rebounds. Barbush scored 12 points, pulled down three boards and dished out two assists during the contest.

Rachel Baskin paced the Fords with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and hauled in seven rebounds on the afternoon.

F&M returns to the court on Tuesday to face off against Washington in CC-action. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
