Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team fell to Muhlenberg 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) action at Tylus Field. With the loss, the Diplomats dropped to 4-4-3, 2-2-2 CC, while the Mules improved to 6-6-1, 4-2 CC.
After a scoreless opening half that saw multiple chances for both sides, Muhlenberg finally broke the 0-0 tie just five minutes into the second.
The Mules' Susan Galgano sent a long shot on net that deflected off the hands of F&M net minder Amanda McGowan and back into play.
The ball dropped in front of C. J. Graetzer just feet away from the crease where the Mules' midfielder slipped it past McGowan and into the back of the net.
After placing pressure on goal and controlling the pace of the first half, the Diplomats struggled to find their way offensively in the second frame. F&M managed only two shots after allowing the game-winning goal, compared to six in the first.
In the opening frame, the Diplomats best chance to light the scoreboard came in the 23rd minute when a Stephanie Bartner corner was redirected by the hands of Muhlenberg's goalkeeper Amanda Wong and out to Allison Miller in the box. The junior midfielder headed the ball back on net but Wong was there for the save.
McGowan (4-4-3) was dealt the loss after sending back five of six shots on net, while Wong (3-4-1) earned the shutout after collecting four saves on the game.
Spencer Plante was active through 90 minutes, registering four of F&M's eight shots on the day. The Mules finished the contest with 11 shots, led by Graetzer with five.
The Diplomats remain at home on Wednesday to take on Richard Stockton at 7:00 p.m.
