F&M Wraps up Play at Knights Fall Classic

ASTON, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall closed out play at the Knights Fall Classic hosted by Neumann with a 3-0 sweep over Catholic before dropping a 3-0 match against Richard Stockton on Saturday afternoon in non-conference volleyball action.

After wrapping up the classic with a 2-2 mark, the Diplomats' record moved to 17-4 on the season. Catholic's loss brought its record to 13-11 while Stockton improved to 21-5 on the year. For their efforts over the weekend, Julie Harvey and Ellie Ezekiel were named to the All-Classic Team.

Against Catholic, F&M edged out a 25-22 win in the opening set with the help of 14 kills compared to only four errors for a .270 hitting percentage. 

After another battle in the second, the Diplomats escaped with a 25-22 win, taking a 2-0 lead in the match. Seventeen of the 25 points in the frame came as a result of a kill; however F&M committed nine errors.

The Diplomats took the decisive third set by a slightly more comfortable margin at 25-19 to finish off the sweep. In the frame, F&M hit at a .229 rate after totaling 15 kills and seven errors.

Four Diplomats reached double-digit kills, led by 12 from Harvey.  The junior middle hitter collected a .333 kill percentage after committing only three errors in 27 total attacks.

Ezekiel, Emily Gerard and Sarah Landry each finished with 10 kills to pace the offense. Caroline Hubbard racked up 42 assists on the contest while also adding a season-high six service aces and nine digs.

Gerard grabbed her first career double-double after adding a career-high 14 digs to her double-digit kills performance.     

Later in the day against Stockton, F&M took the Ospreys to the wire in all three sets but could not come away with a win after dropping the match by scores of 25-23, 25-21, 25-21.

Harvey was phenomenal in the effort, landing 15 kills and only one error in 22 total attacks to combine for a .636 hitting percentage. Three Diplomats reached double-digit digs, led by 15 from Alyssa Sanchez.  

F&M returns to Centennial Conference (CC) action on Wednesday to take on Swarthmore. The Diplomats will look to remain unbeaten in CC play (5-0) when F&M hosts the Garnet at 7:00 p.m.
