Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Scores from Bethany Vincent and Lauren Eastman helped goalkeeper Avery Koep notch her sixth shutout of the season as the No. 5 Franklin & Marshall field hockey team defeated Washington College 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) action.
The Diplomats improved to a 13-1 record on the season that includes a conference-leading 7-0 CC mark, while the Shorewomen fell to 3-9, 2-5 CC.
Vincent lit the scoreboard early for F&M by netting a penalty stroke goal just 4:20 into the first half. The tally was Vincent's third of the season and put the Diplomats out in front at 1-0.
F&M's defense was solid in the opening frame, holding Washington without a shot through 35 minutes of action. The offense for the Diplomats fired 15 shots in the first, making Shorewomen goalkeeper Stephanie Harryman (3-9) register 12 saves.
In the 43rd minute of the second half, Audrey Buckman had an open look at the cage and fired a shot that forced a Washington defensive save. The ball came back into play and found the stick of Eastman who sent in the rebound for her fifth of the season.
The Diplomats controlled play once again in the second, allowing only two shots from the Shorewomen and making life easy on Koep (12-1) who needed only one save in the frame to finish off the win.
Offensively, F&M dominated throughout, outshooting Washington 31-2 and holding the edge on penalty corners at 6-2. Maria Guarisco was active by leading the team with 12 shots, nine of which were on goal.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when F&M hosts Gettysburg at 7:00 p.m.
