F&M Rallies Past Gettysburg

Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Trailing 2-0 in the match, Franklin & Marshall rallied for three-straight sets, taking down Gettysburg 3-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday evening.

With the comeback victory, the Diplomats improved 21-4 on the season and remained unbeaten in CC play at 8-0, while the Bullets dropped to 13-12, 5-3 CC.

F&M fell behind 2-0 after Gettysburg captured scores of 25-20 and 25-18 in the opening sets. Both teams battled throughout the third and with the score tied 24-24 late, a Bullet's kill put the Diplomats on the brink of their first conference loss of the season.

However, F&M refused to go away, winning the next two points off of kills from Emily Gerard and Julie Harvey to reclaim the advantage at 26-25. Gettysburg tied up the set once again on the next point, but kills from Harvey and Ellie Ezekiel kept the Diplomats alive and brought the match to 2-1.

Momentum was clearly on F&M's side heading into the fourth when a 10-1 run in the frame put the Diplomats out in front at 16-7. The Bullets closed the gap to six at 20-14, until F&M closed out the 25-14 win with five-straight points.

In the conclusive fifth set, Gettysburg looked to be in control after jumping in front at 5-1. The Diplomats responded with a 7-1 run that included a pair of kills from both Katie Foreman and Ezekiel to give F&M an 8-6 advantage.

The Diplomats maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the frame, sealing the thrilling comeback bid with a Caroline Hubbard kill on set point to give F&M a 15-11 win.

Four Diplomats reached double-digit kills, led by Foreman, Ezekiel and Gerard with 15 apiece. Gerard committed a mere four errors in 28 attempts as the freshman outside hitter led the team with a .393 hitting percentage.

Hubbard registered a season-high 50 assists while filling out the stat sheet with six digs and an ace. Ezekiel and Alyssa Sanchez each tallied 12 digs to pace the defense.

Offensively, F&M combined to hit at a .252 clip that included 64 kills in 151 attempts. The Diplomats served up eight aces, led by Parys Zambas with three.

F&M returns to the court on Saturday when the Diplomats travel to take on Dickinson at 1:00 p.m.
