F&M Rolls Past McDaniel

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Franklin & Marshall volleyball team continued its dominant Centennial Conference (CC) play, handing McDaniel a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-21) defeat on Tuesday evening. The Diplomats improved to 15-2 on the season and remained atop the CC standings at 5-0, while the Green Terror dropped to 12-5, 3-2 CC.

In the first, F&M fell behind 10-7 before rallying for four-straight points, taking the 11-10 lead with a Kelsey Michenko kill. McDaniel answered with three-straight of its own to reclaim the advantage before the Diplomats earned wins in five of the next six to seize a 19-15 lead.

The four-point margin held as F&M did not surrender the advantage for the remainder of the frame, capping of the 25-20 set win with a powerful Katie Foreman kill.

Tied 14-14 midway through the second, the Diplomats broke the set wide open with an 8-2 run that was capped off with a Caroline Hubbard service ace to take a commanding 22-16 lead. McDaniel fought back to pull within two at 24-20, but a kill from Emily Gerard on the next point sealed a 25-20 win for F&M.

Up 2-0, the Diplomats looked to be in control in the third with a 20-12 lead late in the frame. However, the Green Terror went on a 7-2 run that brought the score to 22-19. The deficit proved too much to overcome for McDaniel as F&M held on for the 25-22 win and finished off the 3-0 sweep.

The reigning CC Player of the Week Julie Harvey was stellar once again for the Diplomats, leading the team with 11 kills, while chipping in on defense with a solo block and assisting on an additional three. Hubbard put forth an all-around solid effort, recording five kills on only eight attempts while racking up 26 assists.

Alyssa Sanchez continued her strong defensive play with a team-high 12 digs, followed by nine from Ellie Ezekiel.

F&M continues its busy road week on Friday when the Diplomats travel to Neumann, facing off in a series of four matches in two days at the Knights Fall Classic. Action kicks off against the host school at 4:00 p.m.
