LANCASTER, Pa. – York used an 18-7 second half run to pull away and defeat Franklin & Marshall 63-50 in non-conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats fell to 1-3, while the Spartans improved to 4-0.

The contest was close in the early going as York had a 9-6 lead with 15:11 left in the first. The Spartans proceeded to extend the lead with a 13-8 run over the next five minutes of action to go ahead 22-14. F&M brought the game to within four points at 24-20 with 5:47 left in the first, but the Spartans countered with an 11-6 run to close out the first half, and took an 11 point lead, 36-25, into the break. Kristina McCarthy led the Diplomats with 10 points in the first half, while Emma Lisle added five rebounds. 

In the first four minutes of the second half, F&M cut York's lead to seven to make it 39-32 with 16:11 left in the contest. Back-to-back layups by McCarthy and Jessica Dowicz brought F&M within three, 39-36 at 14:16, but Brittany Hicks netted eight points for York over the next ten minutes as the Spartans used an 18-7 run to secure the win.

The Spartans held a slight edge in rebounds, 41-37, while F&M held York to 36.9 percent shooting from the floor.

McCarthy finished the game with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Lisle added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sarah Haddon, Hannah Rose Nussbaum, and Dowicz each finished with six points for the Diplomats. For York, Kristen Haley recorded a game-high 23 points, while Brittany Hicks added 15 points for the Spartans.

F&M returns home on Tuesday to face off against Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference action. The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
