Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Hayk Gyokchyan scored a game-high 24 points to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 73-54 victory over Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference (CC) basketball action.
The victory is the sixth straight over the Blue Jays and sets up a showdown of the top two teams in the conference on Saturday and the winner of F&M and Dickinson will earn home court advantage throughout the CC playoffs. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Mayser Center
Max Brewer put F&M (18-6, 13-4 CC) on the board first with a trey a minute into the game before the Blue Jays (15-9, 11-6 CC) outscored F&M 8-4 to go up one, 8-7 at 15:19. Brewer hit another three-pointer at 14:32 to jump start 15-4 run that put the Diplomats up 10, 22-12, with 7:37 left in the game.
Gyokchyan connected on a jumper at 4:04 to make 26-14, but Hopkins chipped away to come within nine points, 30-21, with 2:21 left in the half. F&M answered by outscoring the Blue Jays 8-2 over the final two minute of the half to go into the break with a 38-23 lead.
The Diplomats continued their run in the second with a 13-6 scoring spurt to kickoff the second and went up 51-29 at 14:26. Both teams traded buckets over next couple minutes and the Blue Jays came within 15, 59-44, with 7:44 left in the game. That was as close as Hopkins would get and the Diplomats maintained at least a double-digit the remainder of the game.
Gyokchyan shot 10-for-16 from field, including 4-for-8 from behind the arc to lead all scorers. Matt Porter tallied 14 on 6-for-7 shooting and Jon Salandra fished 12. Brandon Beckford pulled down a game-high seven and dished out five assists for the Diplomats.
George Bugarinovic led Hopkins with 12 points and Adam Spengler finished with 10.
The Diplomats outshot Hopkins 55.8 percent to 44.7 percent and held a 31-21 advantage on the glass.
