Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – No. 8 Franklin & Marshall fell 13-7 to No. 2 Salisbury in women's lacrosse action Sunday afternoon at Tylus Field. The Diplomats dropped to 5-2 while the Sea Gulls remained unbeaten at 7-0.
F&M went on the board first 48 seconds into the game when Maggie Mae Shields found Emily Everdell for the score at 29:12. Salisbury answered five minutes later to make it 1-1 before Anastasia Mergner tallied an unassisted goal at 21:08 to put F&M up 2-1. The Sea Gulls answered and took the lead for good with a five-goal run over a 10-minute span and took a 6-2 edge with 8:45 left in the first.
Mary Mitchell scored on first position shot at 7:40, but Salisbury countered with three straight down the stretch and went into the break with a 9-3 advantage.
Lauren Feusanhrens scored her fourth and fifth goals in the opening three minutes of the second for Salisbury and Casey Madden got one back for the Diplomats with a score at 24:56 for an 11-4 score. Salisbury went up 12-4 and Emily Everdell put one through at 18:43 before the Sea Gulls struck again to make it 13-5 with 18:43 left to play.
The Diplomats did not go away and scored two goals in under two minutes to come within six, 13-7, at 10:45. Caroline Krohn netted an unassisted goal at 12:18 and Mitchell notched her second at 10:45. Both defenses stepped up as neither team lit the board through the final 10:45 of action.
Krohn came away with four draws followed by Everdell with three.
Kelsey Hoffman turned away six shots in the loss and fell to 5-2 while Ashton Wheatley picked up the victory with seven saves.
F&M dominated the draw winning 16 of the game's 22 draws and went 7-for-10 in clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday when F&M travels to Washington for a 1:00 p.m. game.
