F&M Defeats Swarthmore

LANCASTER, Pa. – No. 7 Franklin & Marshall handed Swarthmore a 14-9 loss in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 10-2, 5-0 CC while the Garnet dropped to 8-4, 2-3 CC.

Brittney Jorgenson finished with four goals; Caroline Krohn tallied once and handed out four assists while Emily Everdell, Maggie Mae Shields and Mary Mitchell each found the net twice. Shields went over the 100-point plateau with her first goal of the game.

Everdell put F&M up 1-0 at 25:57 and Jorgenson buried a pass from Krohn 13 seconds later for a 2-0 F&M lead. Swarthmore answered with three straight to go up 3-2, but the Diplomats countered with two of their won to retake the lead. Mitchell notched the first score and Shields scored off a feed from Selawski on the second.

The Garnet tied the game at 4-4 with 6:37 left in the half and Everdell gave F&M a 5-4 edge heading into the break with a score at 3:31.

Annalise Penikis scored 3:16 into the second to tie the game at 5-5 before Krohn assisted on two straight goals by Jorgenson and Mitchell to put the Diplomats back on top for good at 23:00. The Garnet got one through at 21:34 and the Diplomats countered with a 4-0 run and took an 11-6 lead with 12:17 left to play. Ali Kelly started the run, Jorgenson scored the middle two goals and Krohn finished things off for F&M.

Swarthmore struck at 10:35 to come within four, 11-7, but F&M responded with three unanswered and took a seven goal lead, 14-7, with 1:22 left to play. Shields, Saliba and Selawski all netted goals in the run. The Garnet did not go away and scored two in the 48 seconds of action.

Samantha Blicht caused two turnovers and collected two groundballs and Anastasia Mergner came away with five draws.

Kelsey Hoffman improved to 10-2 with seven saves while Michelle Ammerman took the loss with 19 stops.

F&M outshot the Garnet 40-22, had 25 groundballs to the Swarthmore's 18 and went a perfect 18-for-18 on clears.

The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when F&M travels to Ursinus for a 4:00 p.m. game.
