Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Matt Porter and Cedric Moune combined for 34 points to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 67-58 victory over conference-leader Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Wednesday evening. F&M improved to 11-5, 7-2, while the Red Devils picked up their first CC loss and fell to 13-3, 8-1.
Dickinson held onto a slim one-point, 7-6, lead almost five minutes into the game before Morgan Lee hit two from the stripe to tie the game at 11 with 11:44 remaining in the first. The teams traded points with the Red Devils holding onto a 17-16 edge when F&M scored seven-straight to go up 23-17 at 7:45.
The Red Devils cut it to three before F&M tallied four unanswered and took a 27-20 lead with just under six minutes left until the break. Dickinson answered by outscoring F&M 11-2 down the stretch and took a 31-29 lead into halftime.
Moune paced the Diplomats in the first half with 10 points and Porter netted six while Brand Angradi hit three treys for Dickinson for 11 first-half points.
F&M took control in the opening minutes of the second and went on a 6-0 run capped off by a Moune layup to put the Diplomats ahead for good, 35-31, at 18:20. Porter's foul shot at 12:48 made it 42-36 and the Diplomats outscored Dickinson 12-8 over the next four minutes to take a 10-point, 54-44, edge with 8:09 left to play.
The Diplomats maintained a double-digit advantage, 59-48, at 4:24 before Dickinson slowly chipped away to come within six, 64-58, with just 39 ticks on the clock. Porter hit two from the line to make it a three possession game seconds later and Jon Salandra went 1-for-2 at the line with 18 seconds left to put the game out of reach.
Porter shot 6-for-10 from the charity stripe to finished with a game-high 18 points and pulled down six boards. Moune went 6-for-8 from the field with 16 points and seven rebounds while Lee and Salandra both finished with 10 points apiece. Salandra added seven assists, two blocks and six boards for the Diplomats.
Gerry Wixted came into the game ranked third in the CC with 16.9 points game and, guarded primarily by Salandra, finished with just seven, hitting only one shot from the floor. Porter held Adam Honig to season-low five points. Honig averaged 16.4 points per game and ranked fourth in the CC prior to the game.
Angradi finished with a team-high 14 points for Dickinson and Tom McInerney netted 10 for the Red Devils.
F&M outshot Dickinson 46 to 37 percent and converted 19 turnovers into 21 points.
The Diplomats return home on Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. game against Haverford.
