Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Haverford downed Franklin & Marshall 61-48 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action Thursday night at the Mayser Center. The Diplomats fell to 3-15, 1-10 CC, while the Fords improved to 16-1, 10-1 CC.
F&M jumped out to an early lead as a layup from Kristina McCarthy gave the Diplomats an 8-2 advantage with 17:51 to go in the first. However, over the next nine minutes of action, Haverford put together a 17-6 spurt to take a 19-14 lead with 8:59 left.
From there, Hannah Rose Nussbaum sank a 3-pointer at 7:45 and Emma Lisle made a jumper to tie the game at 19-19 with 5:38 remaining. Throughout the final five minutes of the half, the teams traded buckets as Haverford had the 26-25 lead heading into intermission.
The Fords began the second half strong, scoring eight straight points to open up the lead to 34-25 with 16:08 left in the contest. Haverford extended the lead to 13 at 42-29 off an Elizabeth Lynch jumper with 11:36 left to play.
A Jessica Dowicz free throw brought F&M within 10 at 42-32 with 10:42 remaining, but the Diplomats were unable to close the gap any further en route to the 61-48 defeat.
Dowicz paced F&M and tied a career-high in points with 14, while adding seven rebounds. McCarthy notched her 10th double-double of the season, going for 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Lisle tallied 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting and brought down eight rebounds.
Nina Voith scored a game-high 19 points for the Fords, while Lynch finished with 12.
The Diplomats outrebounded Haverford 44-32, while the Fords racked up 15 assists compared to F&M's 11.
The Diplomats hit the road Saturday when F&M takes on Swarthmore. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
