Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 5 Franklin & Marshall field hockey team extended its winning streak to six games, earning its ninth shutout of the year with a 3-0 blanking of Washington on Homecoming Saturday.
The Centennial Conference (CC) victory improved the Diplomats to 14-1, 7-1 CC on the season, while the Shorewomen fell to 11-4, 4-4 CC.
Prior to the contest, F&M honored its six-member senior class of Juliet Dalton, Mallory Gibson, Samantha Porcelli, Megan Kelly, Allie Morey and Caroline Kelley for the group's final regular-season contest at Tylus Field.
Tamara Mills got the scoring started in the 10th minute of the opening half, taking the ball from 20 yards out, weaving through traffic and finding the back of the cage for her fourth score of the season.
The Diplomats' 1-0 advantage was extended in the closing minutes of the frame, when Sarah Powell collected the rebound off a Maria Guarisco shot and found the left corner of the goal.
Powell put the game out of reach in the 58th minute when a hard pass from Kelly on the right side was one-timed by the sophomore forward for the 3-0 lead.
F&M's defense continued its dominant play on the season, allowing only three shots on the afternoon. Allie Morey (14-1) earned the shutout win after stopping the only shot she faced, while her counterpart Sadie Robertson (11-4) was dealt the loss despite an eight-save effort.
Clare Wirth tallied nine of the Diplomats 31 shots, followed by seven from Guarisco and four from Powell. F&M outshot Washington by a 31-3 margin, while also leading on corners at 23-2.
The Diplomats travel to Gettysburg on Tuesday for their second-to-last contest of the regular season, taking on the Bullets at 4:00 p.m.
