Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – A first-half Gettysburg tally proved to be the deciding goal as F&M was edged out by a score of 1-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action Tuesday night at Tylus Field. The Diplomats fell to 1-14-1, 0-8-1 CC, while the Bullets jumped to 12-3-1, 8-0-1 CC.
In the 34th minute of play, Gettysburg's Maddie Heaney fed the ball to teammate Lauren Schapiro and Schapiro rifled a shot about 15 yards from the net past F&M goalkeeper Shannon Johnson-Finn for the 1-0 advantage, which would led to the eventual 1-0 victory for Gettysburg.
F&M's had two good chances to score in the second half. In the 50th minute, Brianna Reid made a strong run down the right side of the field and when she entered the box, she appeared to get tripped by a Bullets defender, however no call was made and the threat was ended.
The best scoring opportunity came when Diplomats' midfielder Kate Kerr lined up for a corner kick and sent the ball into a scramble in the middle. Megan Rubenstein leapt higher than any other player and headed the ball towards the right side of the goal. The ball looked to be headed for the back of the net, however Gettysburg defender Mary Kamovitch made the defensive save to keep the Bullets ahead 1-0.
The Bullets outshot F&M 12-6 and held the edge in corner kicks at 11-1.
Johnson-Finn (1-8-1) made five saves on the night for the Diplomats, while Gettysburg net minder Eliza Gray (12-3-1) stopped two shots.
F&M concludes the regular season on Saturday when the Diplomats welcome Dickinson to Tylus Field for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
