Guarisco Scores Three, Diplomats Survive Gettysburg

Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Maria Guarisco tallied all three goals for the No. 5 Franklin & Marshall field hockey team in a nail-biting 3-2 victory against Gettysburg on Tuesday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) competition.

The win marked the seventh straight for the Diplomats, improving their record to 15-1, 8-1 CC, while the Bullets fell to 4-11, 2-7 CC.  F&M secured the No. 2 seed for the upcoming CC Tournament with the victory.

Tied at 2-2 in the 54th minute, Guarisco capped off her dominant performance with her third score of the game, and conference-leading 19th of the season. The junior midfielder controlled the ball inside the arc, made a move to her left and buried a shot in the back of the cage for the decisive goal.

Guarisco struck first in the 22nd minute of the contest, firing a shot from 10 yards out that found a seam between a pair of Gettysburg defenders and past the goalkeeper for the 1-0 advantage.  The Bullets responded in the 33rd minute with a rebound goal to tie up the game, however Guarisco deflected a shot from Tamara Mills in the closing seconds of the first half to put F&M back out in front.

Gettysburg answered once again at the 46th minute mark, knotting the game with a deflected shot of its own, before Guarisco's third tally just eight minutes later put an end to the back and forth affair.

Guarisco's trio of scores is a season high. She accomplished the feat one other time in her career, tallying three in a 9-0 bashing of Immaculata on Sept. 28, 2013. Her performance moved her into the top-10 of the program's all-time leader in goals with 31 in her career.

Allie Morey (15-1) earned the win after recording one save, while the Bullets' Haley Mowery (4-10) was handed the loss despite a 16-save effort.

F&M's offense was relentless throughout the contest, firing 31 shots, compared to just four from Gettysburg. The Diplomats also held the 11-2 edge on corners. Guarisco led the way with 16 shots, followed by five from Sarah Powell and three apiece from Mills and Megan Kelly

The regular season concludes on Wednesday when F&M travels to take on Dickinson at 11:00 a.m.
