Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Nicole Rynecki wrapped up here career in style, burying an overtime winner to hand Franklin & Marshall's women's soccer team a thrilling 1-0 2OT victory over Dickinson on its final game of 2014. Saturday afternoon's Centennial Conference (CC) win concluded the Diplomats' season at 2-14-1, 1-8-1 CC, while the Red Devils fell to 11-5-1, 5-4-1 CC.
Prior to the start of the contest, F&M honored its seven-member senior class of Adrian Glass, Allison Miller, Spencer Plante, Brianna Reid, Megan Rubenstein, Alexa Yarish and Rynecki.
Just two minutes into the overtime period and with the score knotted at 0-0, Reid forced a turnover deep in Dickinson territory and lofted a pass that hit off a Red Devil defender before finding Rynecki 10 yards out. The senior midfielder took advantage of the opportunity, firing a shot into the right of the goal for her second of the season and ninth of her career.
Dickinson's offense stormed out of the gate in the opening minutes of the first half, putting consistent pressure on the Diplomats' defense, but was unable to come up with a goal. In the 21st minute, F&M's attack began to heat up when Plante dropped off a pass to Reid on the left side of the box, who briefly had an open look at the net, but the Red Devils' keeper was there for the stop.
Shots from Plante and Isabella Raspa forced Dickinson's net minder to come up with a pair of big saves in the following 15 minutes as both team's entered the break with a scoreless tie.
In the second, a Dickinson yellow card with just 28 seconds to go in regulation awarded a Diplomat free kick from 30 yards out. Plante lined up for the opportunity and sailed a cross into the right side of the box, narrowly missing the foot of Reid to send the game into extra minutes.
Shannon Johnson-Finn (2-7-1) was spectacular in net, earning the shutout win after stopping all four shots she faced, while her counterpart Charlotte Armour (8-5-1) was dealt the loss despite turning back seven shots.
F&M held the edge on shots by a narrow 11-10 margin, with a 2-0 advantage in overtime, while corners belonged to the Red Devils at 8-4. Plante paced the attack with four shots, followed by two from Rynecki.
