Box Score YORK, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall suffered a 77-37 setback at the hands of York (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's basketball action. The Diplomats fell to 0-3, while the Spartans improved to 2-1.
York began the game on fire and played tenacious defense, jumping out to a 17-0 lead with 13:07 left in the first. After an F&M timeout, Anajha Burnett got the Diplomats on the board with a three-pointer to make it a 17-3 game with 11:44 to go.
York held the lead throughout the rest of the first half, as the Spartans led 34-12 going into the break.
F&M started the second half on a 13-4 run to cut York's lead to 13 at 38-25 with 14:36 remaining in the contest, but the Spartans countered with 13 straight points to go up 51-28 at the 9:17 mark.
York played good defense down the stretch, not allowing the Diplomats to get any closer en route to the 77-37 victory.
Kara Bacile paced the F&M offense with eight points, while Emily Wetz, Sarah Haddon, and Burnett each added six. Haddon brought down 10 boards, while Carli Studnicky notched seven rebounds.
For the Spartans, Shea Wassel had a game-high 20 points, while Sam Mocniak recorded 17 points off the bench.
York dominated on the glass with 78 rebounds, while the Diplomats picked up 43 total rebounds.
F&M returns to Centennial Conference (CC) action when the Diplomats travel to Baltimore, Md. to take on Johns Hopkins on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
