F&M's Balanced Attack Downs Alvernia

LANCASTER, Pa. – All five starters were in double figures in points to lead Franklin & Marshall past Alvernia 82-67 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's basketball action. The Diplomats improved to 2-7, while the Crusaders fell to 3-4.

With F&M up by nine at 67-58 with 5:02 to go, Alvernia's Olivia Andrekski sank a 3-pointer to bring the Crusaders to within six points at 67-61. However, the Diplomats took control of the game from there, scoring 13 of the next 17 points over four minutes of action en route to the 82-67 victory. 

The game was close early on, as the teams were locked at 12-12 with 11:40 to go in the first. Over the next three minutes of action, F&M opened up an eight points lead (25-17) thanks to a 12-5 run. But, Alvernia responded with a 11-3 run to tie the contest at 28-28 with 3:52 left in opening half. 

The Diplomats went on another run, ending the half scoring 13 of the game's 18 points to take a 41-34 lead heading into the break. 

After the Crusaders cut F&M's lead to five at 43-38, the Diplomats put together a 14-6 spurt to take a 57-42 advantage with 13:36 to go in the contest. F&M maintained its strong lead until Alvernia came to within six (67-61), but the Diplomats' key run at the end dropped the Crusaders. 

Emily Wetz recorded 15 points for F&M, a career high, while Haddon also notched 15 points and brought down 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Leslie Bacile had 14 points (career high), while Kara Bacile and Erica Brown added 13, a career-high for both players.

Alvernia's Andrefski paced the Crusaders with 18 points, while Mya Lobb (14) and Kaitlyn Yoh (10) were in double digits in points.

The Diplomats held the advantage in rebounds at 48-37, and F&M dished out 16 assists, including five from K. Bacile and four from Wetz.

The Diplomats return to action on Dec. 31 when F&M hosts Susquehanna at 1:00 p.m.
