Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. -Franklin & Marshall could not overcome a 13-0 second-half run from Swarthmore, dropping a 64-50 contest against the Garnet on Saturday in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action. The loss dropped the Diplomats' record to 3-16, 1-11 CC, while Swarthmore improved to 12-8, 7-7 CC.
F&M kept the score close in the opening minutes of the game and trailed the Garnet by two at 12-10 with 13:25 remaining.
From there, the teams traded buckets and Swarthmore held the slight advantage for seven minutes of action until a Jessica Dowicz layup gave the Diplomats a 22-21 lead with 6:12 left in the half, their first lead in over 12 minutes of play.
The Garnet responded and closed out the half on a 13-7 run to take a 34-29 lead heading into intermission.
Kristina McCarthy led F&M in the first, going for 12 points and four rebounds, while Sarah Haddon added five points and four rebounds from the bench.
In the opening minutes of the second half, the Diplomats kept the game close as a McCarthy layup cut the deficit to six at 43-37 with 16:13 left in the contest. However, Swarthmore scored 13 consecutive points over four minutes of play to take a 56-37 lead with 12:24 to go and put the game out of reach.
McCarthy tallied 20 points and 10 rebounds to notch her CC-leading 11th double-double of the season, while Emma Lisle added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Diplomats.
Three Swarthmore players were in double figures in points, including 10 from Elle Larsen, 16 from Katie Lytle, and 11 from Kayla Moritzky.
F&M shot 39.2 percent from the floor, while the Garnet shot 38.1 percent. The Diplomats outrebounded Swarthmore 50-39.
F&M returns to the court Wednesday when the Diplomats travel to Baltimore to battle Johns Hopkins. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
