Diplomats Dominate Crusaders; Pick Up Fourth Straight

SELINGSGROVE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall scored early and often en route to a 15-7 victory over Susquehanna in men's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon. The win is the fourth-straight for the Diplomats as F&M improved to 4-2 while the Crusaders dropped to 2-4. 

The Diplomats led from wire-to-wire and started out with a 2-0 lead three minutes into the game. Wesley Rhudy fed Philip Gamble for the first score and Billy Kempner hooked up with Michael Bossidy to make it 2-0 at 12:14. Bossidy buried a pass from Ben Ross at 10:26 and Kempner picked up his second assist when Will Ballantyne scored at 8:59 to make it 4-0. John Barney scored with just 41 seconds left in the first for a 5-0 F&M advantage. 

Susquehanna stopped its scoreless drought 15:22 into game with a score early in the second, but the Diplomats rattled off three more and took an 8-1 lead at 7:14. Chad Gamble found Ballantyne for the first score while Mike Sanzone and Philip Gamble netted the other two. The Crusaders picked up a pair of scores to make it 8-5 before Tommy Wenk scored at 2:49 and Susquehanna put one through with 13 seconds left to make it 9-4 at the break. 

The teams traded goals throughout the third quarter with the Diplomats holding onto an 11-6 advantage heading into the fourth. Jamie McCulloch scored 45 seconds into the quarter and Barney struck unassisted at 8:56 for F&M's goals. 

Chad Gamble connected with Mike Rama to start out the fourth quarter and the Crusaders scored at 6:43 to make it 12-7. F&M dominated the remainder of the game with three unanswered goals. McCulloch tallied two of the goals, one off a feed from Ross and the other unassisted while Rama and Barney teamed up for the final tally of the game.  

Mike Sanzone went 23-for-27 from the X and scooped up 12 ground balls for the Diplomats. Josh Kanter forced two turnovers and came away with two ground balls while Carlos Pelaez and Sean Brown finished with four ground balls apiece. 

Cameron Setian improved to 4-2 with 11 saves for F&M while Jared Knowlton took the loss with five stops. 

F&M outshot Susquehanna 45-23, with 25 shots on goal, held a 42-27 advantage in ground balls and went 23-for-26 on clear attempts. 

The Diplomats return to action on Saturday when F&M hosts Albright at 1:00 p.m.
