Diplomats Handle Haverford

LANCASTER, Pa. – Mary Mitchell and Emily Everdell tallied three goals each to lead No. 8 Franklin & Marshall to a 12-5 win over Haverford in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The win is the fourth straight for F&M as the Diplomats improved to 13-3 with a 7-0 mark in CC action while the Fords dropped to 7-7, 3-4 CC. 

F&M started the game with a dominating 3-0 run during the first five minutes of action. Ali Kelly found Mitchell at 28:31 to get things started and Grace Saliba buried a pass from Yen Baker for a 2-0 F&M edge. Anastasia Mergner made 3-0 with an unassisted goal at 25:17 before the Fords picked up their first point off a free position at 24:34. 

The Diplomats countered with four straight and took a 7-1 lead with 7:36 remaining in the first half. Everdell scored the first three goals in the run and Mitchell put the last one through for F&M. Haverford responded with three unanswered goals to come within three, 7-4, at halftime. All of Haverford's goals in the game came off free positions, including the three to end the first half. 

Mitchell made it 8-4, 39 seconds into the final stanza and Caroline Krohn scored unassisted at 20:15 to put F&M up 9-4. Samantha Blicht found Kimberly Abruzzo on a well-executed transition play to make it 10-4 before Hannah Morgan netted a goal for the Fords to make it 10-5. F&M finished the half with two goals from Emily D'Erasmo.

Christie Bonfiglio caused two turnovers and finished with two ground balls to pace the defense while Everdell and Blicht each collected three ground balls for the Diplomats. 

Kelsey Hoffman turned away four shots and improved to 11-3 and Shannon Horn took the loss with 11 stops.

F&M outshot Haverford 31-11, caused 22 turnovers and went 17-for-17 in clear attempts. 

The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when F&M travels to Gettysburg for a 7:00 p.m. game with the winner looking to earn hosting rights in the CC Playoffs.
