Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Two goals a piece from Maria Guarisco, Samantha Porcelli and Melanie Consiglio paced the No. 5 Franklin & Marshall field hockey team in a 10-0 bashing of Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon at Tylus Field.
The Diplomats picked up their fourth consecutive shutout, outscoring their opponents by a 30-0 margin during that span, and improved to 7-0, 2-0 CC on the year, while the Garnet fell to 1-7, 0-1 CC.
Under a minute into the contest, Megan Kelly lit the scoreboard with a deflection off a Guarisco shot from just inside the circle to take a 1-0 lead. F&M followed with five more tallies in the half, including a pair from Porcelli in the final five minutes of the frame, to head into halftime with a commanding 6-0 advantage.
Guarisco found the back of the cage for her second goal of the afternoon just two minutes into the second stanza, dribbling down the left side of the field, cutting to the middle and rocketing a shot past Swarthmore's keeper.
The Diplomats registered four goals in the second, including a pair of unassisted tallies from Consiglio in the 52nd and 68th minutes to wrap up the scoring in the contest.
Juliet Dalton (11th minute), Sarah Powell (15th minute) and Lauren Eastman (42nd minute) also scored on the afternoon. Mills, Dalton and Annie Horsley each finished with a pair of assists.
F&M led in shots at 49-2, including a 23-0 margin in the second. The Diplomats also controlled penalty corners at 12-0. Guarisco paced the offense with 14 shots, 10 of which were on goal, while Porcelli chipped in with six.
Goalkeeper Allie Morey (7-0) earned the victory, tallying one save in 54 minutes of action. Ashley Gubernick stepped in to relieve Morey, finishing out the final 16 minutes of the game in front of the cage. The Garnet's Ainsley Parrish (1-7) suffered the loss after allowing eight goals and recording 17 saves.
The Diplomats are set for another home contest on Tuesday, facing off against Messiah at 7:00 p.m. in non-conference play.
