Box Score HAVERFORD, Pa. – Devin Figueroa scored a career-high 25 points to lead No. 14 Franklin & Marshall to an 82-66 victory over Haverford Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference men's basketball action. The Diplomats improved to 15-2, 8-2 CC while the Fords dropped to 3-14, 1-9 CC.
The win is the fourth straight, and the 13th victory in the last 14 meetings, over Haverford and completes the season sweep for F&M.
F&M led wire-to-wire and jumped out to a 15-6 lead on a Figueroa triple five minutes into the first half. Two threes by Figueroa fuel a 12-5 spurt that put the Diplomats ahead 27-11 three minutes later and F&M continued to dominant, taking its largest lead, 40-17, on Brandon Federici three-pointer with 4:19 left to the break. The Fords answered with a 12-6 run to end half, but F&M held onto a 46-29 edge heading into the break.
Figueroa had 15 points in the first half to lead all scorers while Morgan Lee netted 12 in the opening frame and Federici poured in 10 points for the Diplomats.
Haverford attempted a comeback in the early minutes of the second half, outscoring F&M 6-2 in the opening two minutes to come within 13, but F&M responded with a 9-2 spurt and took a 20-point lead, 57-37, at 13:55. The Fords countered with a 17-8 run and came within 11, 65-54, but that was as close as they would get as the Diplomats held onto a double-digit lead the remainder of the contest, leading by as many as 20 points down the stretch.
Figueroa shot 9-for-14 from the floor and 7-for-9 from the stripe to lead all scorers while Federici knocked down 9-for-14 from the field for 22. Lee netted 17 with seven boards and Cedric Moune also finished in double-figures with 10 points.
Gibby Graves paced the Fords with 18; James Levine tallied 15 and Lucas Colombo ended with 11 points for Haverford.
The Diplomats outshot Haverford 55-52 percent and held a 34-23 advantage on the glass.
F&M returns home on Tuesday as the Diplomats host Gettysburg at 8:00 p.m.
