Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Gettysburg took down Franklin & Marshall 79-55 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Tuesday night at the Mayser Center. The Diplomats fell to 5-12, 2-9 CC, while the Bullets improved to 12-5, 7-5 CC.
F&M opened up the contest scoring seven of the first nine points, as Anajha Burnett's triple made the score 7-2 with 17:14 left in the first. However, Gettysburg battled back and tied the game at 10-10 with 12:20 remaining.
For the next three minutes, both teams traded points and the contest remained tied with 9:21 to go at 16-16. From there, an 11-4 Gettysburg spurt put the Bullets ahead 27-20 with just over six minutes left in the first. But, a 12-6 run by the Diplomats, capped off by a Leslie Bacile trey, brought F&M to within one point at 33-32 with 34 seconds remaining.
A Bullets free throw increased the lead to two points, but the Diplomats were down just two at 34-32 heading into the break.
Gettysburg opened up the second half on a 14-5 run and the Bullets never let go of the lead thanks to their 58.1 shooting percentage in the second half. Gettysburg's hot shooting never let F&M come close again, as the Bullets went on to win 79-55.
Burnett and Sarah Haddon each totaled 11 points, while Erica Brown and L. Bacile notched 10 apiece.
Jessica Porter paced Gettysburg with 28 points and Annie Reilly chipped in 12.
The Diplomats held the edge on the glass at 41-31, but Gettysburg shot 50.0 percent from the floor, compared to F&M's 30.0 percent.
The Diplomats return to the court on Thursday when F&M travels to Haverford for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
