Fords Down Diplomats

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Five Haverford players were in double digits in points as Franklin & Marshall was defeated by a score of 80-47 on Thursday night in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action. The Diplomats fell to 5-13, 2-9 CC, while the Fords improved to 12-6, 10-1 CC.

Haverford jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead with 16:39 left in the first half, but back-to-back buckets from Erica Brown and Emily Wetz cut the lead to just two at 10-8 with 15:46 to go. 

From there, the Fords ate up just over six minutes of clock with a 16-6 run to give Haverford a 26-14 advantage with 9:25 left in the opening half. The Fords extended their lead throughout the rest of the half and took a 44-17 lead heading into intermission. 

In the opening minutes of the second half, F&M kept within striking distance when Brown hit a free throw to bring the Diplomats to within 26 at 46-20 at the 17:56 mark, however Haverford never let F&M get any closer en route to the 80-47 victory.

Haddon led the Diplomats' offense with a game-high 17 points, while Brown finished with 12 points and two blocks. 

For the Fords, Anna Schrecengost and Pallavi Juneja each scored 11, while Elizabeth Lynch, Sierra Berkel, and Jacquelyne Pizzuto registered 10 points apiece.

Haverford held the edge in rebounds at 48-36 and shot 48.3-percent from the floor, including an 11-for-20 mark from behind the arc.

F&M returns to action on Saturday when the Diplomats welcome Swarthmore to the Mayser Center for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
