Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall battled Washington College to a double-overtime 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action. The tie, F&M's second in a row, moved the Diplomat record to 3-9-3 on the season and 1-6-1 in CC play, while the Shorewomen are now 3-9-2 overall and 0-7-1 in the conference.
After honoring seniors Vanessa Duarte, Kim Kornbluth, Caroline Letner, and Jennifer Lurty, F&M was quick out of the gate. In the second minute a corner kick from Lurty found Sabrina Graziano in the box, with her shot sailing high and wide.
The remainder of the half saw balanced play, with neither team creating any obvious scoring opportunities. The Diplomats held a narrow 3-2 lead in shots, while Washington carried the corner advantage, also at 3-2.
Isabella Raspa got involved in the 63rd minute, narrowly missing from six yards out.
Just moments later the Diplomats thought that they had gotten on the board. A Sarah Mischianti corner kick found freshman Lauren Kranis, who put the ball into the net, only to have the goal called back due to a handball.
The game progressed into overtime, with Graziano again finding an opportunity in the 92nd minute. After finding space down the left side, the freshman cut in to fire a shot with her right foot that the keeper was able to reign in.
In the second overtime period Kate Kerr went close, heading a Lurty free kick just wide. F&M continued to pressure the Shorewomen during the remaining moments, but was unable to come up with a winner as the match ended 0-0.
Kerr led the way for the Diplomats, attempting four shots on the day. Graziano made three attempts on goal, while Raspa, Kornbluth, and Meghan Byrne all contributed two.
F&M goalkeeper Shannon Johnson-Finn was relatively untested, making just one save on the day.
The Diplomats return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Gettysburg for a 7:00 p.m. CC showdown.
