Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall gave up two second-half goals on the way to dropping a 3-0 decision against Gettysburg on Tuesday night in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action. With the defeat the Diplomats fell to 3-10-3 overall and 1-7-1 in the CC, while the Bullets improved to 9-2-5 overall and 6-2-1 in conference play.
From the opening whistle, Gettysburg had the better of the play, firing eight shots in the opening 20 minutes. Unable to find a goal from the run of play, the Bullets took advantage of a set piece situation in the 34th minute. The initial shot from just outside the box was saved by Diplomat goalkeeper Shannon Johnson-Finn, but the ensuing rebound fell to Jess Cuttone who nodded home from close range to give Gettysburg the lead.
Despite sizable deficits in both shots and corners, the F&M defense held steady for the rest of the period. Johnson-Finn recorded seven saves in the opening 45 minutes as the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Bullets at halftime.
Gettysburg continued the pressure in the second frame, increasing its lead to 2-0 in the 56th minute. Another tally in the 70th minute took the score to its final status, 3-0.
Johnson-Finn added another save in the second half, pushing her total to eight on the night.
The Diplomats finish up regular season play on Saturday, visiting Dickinson for a 1:00 p.m. match in Carlisle.
