Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Johns Hopkins narrowly defeated Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Wednesday night, getting a late goal from Alexa Rangecroft to take the match, 1-0. The Diplomats fell to 3-6-1 overall and 1-3 in the conference, while Blue Jays moved to 7-3-1 and 3-1 with the victory.
The opening half saw Johns Hopkins take control early, enjoying a multitude of shots in the opening period. However, F&M goalkeeper Shannon Johnson-Finn was up to the task, making three saves in the half, including a diving effort to deny a Blue Jay free kick in the eighth minute.
The Blue Jays owned advantages in both shots and corners, but as the halftime whistle blew, the score remained 0-0.
The second half saw Johns Hopkins again assert its control over the match, tallying 15 shots after the break. Johnson-Finn continued to stump the Blue Jay attack, making two more tremendous saves in the 48th and 65th minutes.
In the 83rd minute, the stout Diplomat defense finally allowed Johns Hopkins to break the deadlock when Alexa Rangecroft got on the end of a Kristen Horl cross from the right side to give the Blue Jays the lead.
F&M was far from conceding, finding its best opportunity of the day inside the last minute. Meghan Byrne lifted a free kick into the box which hit the crossbar and fell to Lauren Kranis, whose follow-up header went just high.
Johnson-Finn accumulated seven total saves for the match. Kranis and Isabella Raspa carried the offense for the Diplomats, with each attempting a shot in the contest.
F&M returns to action on Saturday when Haverford comes to town for a 6:00 p.m. match.
