Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's Anajha Burnett scored a career-high 27 points, but York made an 11-0 run in the first quarter and never looked back en route to defeating F&M 84-59 on Tuesday night in women's basketball action. The loss dropped the Diplomats to 0-2 on the year while the Spartans improved to 2-0 with the victory.

After the opening minutes saw F&M take a slight 4-2 advantage on buckets from Burnett and Sarah Haddon, York made an 11-0 run to take clear control at 13-4. Haddon and Burnett combined for seven more points to keep it close at 18-11, but the Spartans put together an 8-2 run over the final 2:46 to carry a 26-13 lead into the first intermission.

York carried that momentum into the second, opening the quarter with a 12-5 run that was capped off by a steal and layup from Sarah Shearer to push the Spartan lead to 38-18. The Diplomats again bounced back, using eight points from Lindsey Powers to head into halftime down 44-29.

Another quick 6-0 run from York to open the third once more gave the Spartans the momentum and a 21-point lead. Burnett continued to have the hot hand, scoring nine points in the quarter, but could not stop York from holding a 67-43 lead after three.

The Spartans expanded that lead to as much as 32 at 79-47, but Erica Brown and Burnett each scored a pair of buckets in the late stages to bring the score to its' final tally, 84-59.

Burnett finished up with 27 points, the highest single-game tally by a Diplomat dating back to the 2010-11 season. The junior guard also paced F&M in rebounds and steals, pulling in eight boards and logging three takeaways.

Powers, a freshman, also reached double digits by scoring 11 points. Haddon finished with eight and Brown with seven, as each hauled in seven rebounds for the Diplomats.

F&M returns to action on Saturday, hosting Elizabethtown for the second game of the Terry Greene Tip-Off Classic. That contest is set to begin at 3:00 p.m., following the tournament's first game featuring Washington & Lee and Albright at 1:00 p.m.
