Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel withstood a late Franklin & Marshall run, holding on for a 58-53 victory on Thursday night in Centennial Conference women's basketball. The Diplomats fell to 0-7, 0-3 CC while the Green Terror improved to 6-1, 3-0 CC.
Down 50-38 midway through the fourth quarter, F&M got two foul shots from Shannon O'Connor and a pair of buckets from Erica Brown to move within six at 50-44 with 3:54 remaining. McDaniel countered with a bucket and two free throws of their own, but a three from Haley Pilone and a pair of foul shots from Lindsey Powers again cut the Green Terror's lead to six at 55-49 with 40 ticks left.
A McDaniel layup on the ensuing possession returned the Green Terror lead to a comfortable eight points, holding on to claim the nerve-wracking 58-53 victory.
The late drama was the product of three back-and-forth quarters. After a relatively tame start that saw the teams remain tied at 10-10, McDaniel used a 12-2 run to end the quarter and take a 22-12 lead into the second.
The second period saw F&M take the upper hand, as five Diplomats got on the score sheet. A 10-3 run keyed the F&M comeback, outscoring the Green Terror 16-9 in the quarter to trail by just three at halftime, 31-28. Sarah Pisani scored five in the frame, while Pilone added four.
The momentum returned to McDaniel in the third, employing an 8-2 run to open the third and take a 39-30 lead. A Green Terror bucket with five seconds left pushed the McDaniel lead to 42-32 after three.
