Diplomats Demolish No. 11 Devils

LANCASTER, Pa. – Morgan Lee scored a team-high 20 points to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 69-53 over No. 11 Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action. Lee was honored before the game as F&M's only senior and the Diplomats improved 20-5, 13-5 CC while the Red Devils dropped to 20-5, 13-5 CC. 

The victory secured F&M the second seed in the CC Tournament and a first round bye and sets up a rematch with the Red Devils in the second round. The game will be played at Johns Hopkins on Friday at 6 p.m.  McDaniel and Gettysburg will face-off in the first round game on Wednesday and the winner will face Hopkins on Friday at 8:00 p.m. The CC Championship Game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday in Baltimore.

F&M will appear in its 18th conference tournament in the 22-year history of the CC. The Diplomats are 20-10 in tournament action and look to win their eighth CC crown and fourth in six years. 

Tied at 10-10 nine minutes into the game, F&M went on a 10-0 run with six points by Devin Figueroa to give F&M a 20-10 lead.  Dickinson scored three straight before the Diplomats rattled off five of their own to go up 25-13 at 6:48. The Diplomats went ahead 14, 29-15, at 4:37 and maintained a double-digit advantage the remainder of the half and went into the break with a 33-23 lead. 

Lee had 10 points in the first on 4-for-7 shooting and Figueroa chipped in nine. 

The Red Devils slowly chipped away to open the second stanza and came within nine, 36-27, but buckets by Hunter Eggers and Cedric Moune made it 40-27. Chris Cox's basket at 14:47 made it 42-31 and Figueroa hit a trey on F&M's next possession to kick off an 11-4 run for a 53-35 lead. Dickinson countered with a 9-1 run and came within 10, 54-44, with 6:19 left to play. 

The teams traded points over the next three minutes with F&M holding to a 62-48 lead at 3:14. Dickinson scored five unanswered and came within nine, but the Diplomats finished the game with a 7-0 run to secure the win. 

Lee shot 8-for-14 from the floor and finished with seven boards while Figueroa chipped in 15 off the bench. Brandon Federici went 4-for-4 from the line and ended with 11 points for his 23rd double-digit performance of the year. Moune netted seven and Hunter Eggers pulled down a team-high 10 boards and scored six points in his first collegiate start for F&M. 

Gerry Wixted paced Dickinson with a game-high 25 points while Brandon Angradi was the only other Red Devil in double-figures with 13 points. 

F&M outshot Dickinson 46-27 percent, held a 39-34 edge on the glass and converted 12 turnovers into 13 points.
