Box Score BROOKLANDVILLE, Md. -- Brittney Jorgenson scored four goals and handed out an assists to lead No. 8 Franklin & Marshall to a 17-7 victory over No. 12 Washington & Lee Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action. The Diplomats improved to 2-0 while the Generals fell to 2-1.
Grace Saliba put F&M on the board first when she buried a pass from Paige Moriarty early in the contest. The Generals tied the game two minutes later and the Diplomats responded with 10 straight goals to take the lead for good. Gabby Frank started the run with an unassisted goal at 22:53 while Emily Everdell, Saliba and Jorgenson all struck unassisted to make it 5-1 almost ten minutes into action.
Jorgensen finished off a pass form Casey Madden and Emily D'Erasmo along with Everdell connected on free position shots for an 8-1 F&M edge. Anastasia Mergner tallied one a 5:47 with D'Erasmo and Frank netting the final two goals of the run. Corinne Wood managed to sneak one through for the Generals with 34 seconds left in the half to make 11-2 at the break.
The teams traded goals to start out the second with Jorgenson scoring both of F&M's goals before she found Moriarty at 18:15 for a 14-4 F&M advantage. Madden picked up a free position goal at 14:49 and both teams scored a pair during the final 11 minutes of action. Saliba assisted Moriarty on F&M's first tally and Abruzzo scored unassisted on the Diplomats final score of the contest.
Saliba, Moriarty, D'Erasmo, Everdell and Frank all scored a pair goals for the Diplomats while Madden finished with a goal and two helpers. Megan Kelly led the Diplomats with three draw controls and added two caused turnovers while Moriarty and Kaitlin Hardt both finished with a game-high four ground balls.
Corrine Wood led the way for the Generals with three scores, Hayley Soutter netted two and Olivia Sisson along with Lauren Procaccino each scored a goal.
Hardt improved to 2-0 with four saves while only giving up five goals and Cara Mulligan took the loss with five stops.
F&M outshot W&L 29-18, held a 22-15 edge in groundballs and won 16-of-26 draws. The Diplomats were 3-for-5 in free position shots while the Generals connected on 2-of-3 free position opportunities.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when F&M travels to Stevenson for a 3:00 p.m. match up.
